A `star' birthday

The hero takes the cake

IN MORE ways than one, he is a celebrity. With a sizable fan following among movie buffs and versatility as an actor, whether donning the role of a father or a son, a rustic or a city-bred suave businessman, and as politician (a Rajya Sabha MP), Sarat Kumar has come a long way since he first gained recognition in Pulan Visaranai.

He was once again in the news, this time when he attended cine star, Devayani's birthday celebration at the picturesque Government Botanical Gardens. Taking a break while shooting for her latest film, Samasthanam, Devayani shared the cake with the hero, Sarath, co-stars and other film unit members. Sarath also took time off to visit the Government School for the Deaf.

For the 90 or so inmates, in the age group 6 -16 who are living in a `silent world' Sarath Kumar's voice may have been "unfamiliar'', but his appearance definitely wasn't, evident when he walked into the school. Many recognised him almost immediately and their joy knew no bounds when he distributed sweets to them.
