Dialling Ripon

FINALLY, THE decks have been cleared for the printing of the Chennai Corporation's telephone directory, which did not make an appearance in a long while.

It was initially said that the delay was caused due to the late elections to the Standing Committees. And later, the excuse was the transfer of IAS officers. But, as the Corporation grapevine had it, the civic administration was instructed to wait till the erstwhile Mayor, M.K. Stalin was out.

Now that things have speeded up after his removal, it has only strengthened the rumour. Sources said that the directory will be available for internal circulation on Monday.

Now with the Mayor out of the way, the beneficiary would be the Acting Mayor, `Karate' R. Thiagarajan, whose name will appear first in bold. But will he arrange to make copies of the directory available on sale for the public?

Moreover, Mr. Stalin could have used his own discretionary powers while in office to produce a directory, but for some reason, did not.
