On Tenterhooks

AS THE wait for the final word from the judiciary continues, the corridors of the Kochi Corporation is abuzz with speculation about the outcome of the election case against the deputy mayor, A. V. George.

The day in the Corporation was dominated by discussions about the possible court verdict and everyone seemed interested in making hair-splitting analyses about the legal questions involved in the case.

Some other quarters, anticipating that the verdict may go against Mr. George, were into the numbers game and were considering all options that may facilitate a change of guard in the Corporation.

Yet another section of people were heard wondering aloud about the bearing the situation had on democratic rights and the realisation of the will of the people.

Things came to such a pass reportedly due to the wrong act of a Government official.

It was once again Mr. George's day, as the delivery of verdict has been put off to Thursday.
