Search for compassion
NO ONE agrees with the ways in which animals are treated, particularly cattle. Especially, while they are transported to the slaughter house. As we know in our part of the nation, cattle are not the only breed being tortured or killed, without an iota of compassion.
But then the ambit of the National Cattle Commission was restricted to just that - cattle. The Commission had a sitting in the city on Tuesday, and had invited animal lovers in the city to present their complaints about the way cattle are dealt with.
The sitting held was at a hotel auditorium in the city, where Commission members listened over tea and biscuits to passionate outbursts on violence against animals.
But some officials said in hushed tones, that there could be a "hidden agenda'' to gather support for banning cow-slaughter across the nation. The impression arose because the Commission did not seem interested in listening much to any other complaints.
And that was how it was as the Commission members visited a State which has a large beef-eating population. Ensuring the humane treatment and slaughter of cattle is however the immediate concern of animal lovers here.
