Striking out
IF THE number of organisations she is involved with is any indication, then the political career graph of Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of the senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, is reaching for the skies.
And it may be quite an indication of her versatility that Ms Venugopal can at the same time be the chairperson of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and also act as a key office-bearer of many other organisations. Ranging from the Public Sector Employees Congress to the Kerala Licenced Plumbers Congress, of which she is the president.
Her ascent to the presidentship of the Kerala Electricity Board Employees Confederation had attracted attention not least because of the controversy it led to. But by and large not many would know that she is at the helm of more than a dozen such organisations, big or small.
And if one makes a profession-wise categorisation of these organisations, Ms Venugopal has the backing of diverse groups like jewelley shop workers, textile workers, building and road workers not to mention plumbers and a whole assortment of public sector and government employees.
And just last week she opened an office at Panampilly Nagar to help her meet the increasing demands of wearing so many caps at the same time. It was Mr Karunakaran, of course, who inaugurated the office.
