CM stays mum

THE HIGH-LEVEL police conference chaired by the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, on Sunday was a subject for intense speculation in media circles. It was particularly so because of the stand-off between the Chief Minister and journalist trade unions over the issue of allowing private television channels to cover Assembly proceedings.

Rumours were rife in media circles that some among the police top-brass had sought specific directives from the Chief Minister as to how to handle protesting journalists. However, Mr. Antony had reportedly remained silent on the issue during the conference, it was alleged.
