A bitter lesson

AFTER THE sensational escape of Imam Ali from the Tirumangalam taluk police station on March 7, the police are doubly careful while transporting criminals, especially extremists, from prison to court for remand or trial.

The movement of a convoy carrying extremists is closely monitored by the Police Control Room, besides a handful of intelligence agencies.

An officer in the rank of an SP is leading the convoy these days. When the notorious criminal, `Police' Fakruddin, was brought to the Madurai district court for remand extension on Tuesday, the DCP (Headquarters), A. Adaikalam, escorted the convoy with a dozen heavily armed commandos.

The eastern entry of the court was cordoned off and the accused was whisked away in an eye's wink.

The escort police are strictly advised not to converse with culprits or their relatives unless it is absolutely essential.

The police are in no mood to allow any more chances.
