Telly lines up the stars


Jomol regales the audience

MALAYALAM TELEVISION channels are pulling out all stops to trigger a star-studded start to the Onam week on the telly.

Surya TV starts `Uthradom' day (Tuesday) with `Naadan Sheelukal', `Maveli Varumbol' and `Uthradakattu'. `Onam' is the magic word yet again in `Onasamsakalode'.

Jomol appears in a phone-in programme, `Onavisheshangalumayee' while `Ennum Kaiyetthum Doorathu', a take-off on Fazil's film, `Nokkethadoorathu', has an interview with the director and his son, Shanu.

There are also comedy skits in `De Maveli Kombatthu' and `Sangeethame Jeevitham'.

A phone-in quiz interlude over the next four days has plenty of prizes in the form of cash and gold for winners.

The films for the occasion are `Sathyameva Jayathe' and `Kannezhuthi Pottumthottu'. The channel also has `Uthradanilavu', a tele-film besides the regulars including `Comedy Time'.

The Onam package put together by Asianet will have plenty of star action. `Onachitrangal' will feature a sneak preview of Onam release movies.

The upcoming starlet, Suja Karthika, presents the programme.

`Mukutthi poovum Munnazhi pattum' presents `Onapattukal' by the Adoor Kalasamiti to the music of traditional instruments like the `udukku' and `ganjira'.

hese songs will focus on the preparations for Onam and the festive scenes in villages.


Onam beckons

`Suprabhatham', the breakfast show, will feature special guests, Onam songs, the manner of celebration in various communities and `Vox Pop' show titled `Ennalonam Ponnonam'.

The `Sixty Plus Onam' features eminent personalities above the age of 60.

The Cinemala team dishes out a comic skit on the plight of political leaders who are sent to space in a rocket.

Viewers will be peppered with Onam visuals throughout the festival period. The sequence of 30-seconders will bring images of `Oonjalattam', `Onakkodi', `Onasadya' and the `Pookalam'.

The Kairali TV's `Onakazcha' package for Tuesday has classical music by L. Subrahmanyam and interview with the versatile playback singer, S. P. Balasubramaniam. `Gandharva Sparsham' will provide a musical evening in the company of K.J. Jesudas and Prabha Jesudas.

`Subhadinam' is a half-hour programme on Bharath award- winner Murali while `Magic Oven' features Padmaja Venugopal. Samyukta Varma appears in a special edition of `Bhagyalakshmi' anchored by Urvasi, while `Symphony' is a half-hour programme featuring songs by new-comer Indrajith.

Onam vignettes come to viewers in the form of `Onappattukal' and `Thumbapookalude Ormakku', which has a star participant in young actress Kavya Madhavan.

Tuesday's fare on Doordarshan will have a mega show Onam special, a `kavi sammelan' and a film-based programmme, `Flashback'.

The channel also has an on-line live programme with the director, Rajasenan, as special guest.
