If wishes were cars...
At the car bazaar on Infantry Road.
WEASLEY WOULD have approved of the car bazaars in Bangalore. All Harry Potter fans know that Ron's father, an official in the Ministry of Magic, had a guilty fascination for all things Muggle, including cars.
Why, in the second Potter book, Harry and Ron take off (literally) in Mr. Weasley's car, which though Muggle-made, has lots of magic in it. And the rest is, well, a movie now. But will it not be great if cars could fly? The only problem is that all that carbon monoxide and other emissions so high up will probably make life down here that much more difficult. And imagine the mid-air collisions!
Sometimes though, life is a "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" story when it comes to cars. People aspire to own cars, save up for them, take loans for them. Trouble is, even the latest model gets old, and is subsequently sold so quickly.
Look through the automobile section of any Free Ads issue, and you will know what we mean. It is not just the Marutis, Tata Estates, and Ambassadors that are being sold by their owners, the Matizes are already mostly out; so are Santros (the older models), and even the Accents.
Which is probably why so many car bazaars have sprung up in the City. There is a well-known one on Residency Road (near The Bangalore Club), but there are smaller versions too. Some months ago, Infantry Road got its own car bazaar. We are sure other half-residential/commercial areas have got theirs too.
People who have always earned well, earn much more now. Naturally, the financial institutions are practically panting to give us money to buy even used cars. And why else will Chevrolet (the latest entrant to the great car bazaar that is India) run "teasers" on television saying, "I am your prize", "I am your sun", and "I am your dream", among other things.
Unfortunately, they have not shown us the four-wheeled object in question so far. It will presumably be launched in a suitably fitting manner soon. And then maybe we will find out if it will do the job of the sun and the moon, more efficiently.
But there is a lot of magic inside four doors. Even a wizard knows that.
