Helmets do save lives

PROTECTIVE headgear does not really prevent a head injury. But it certainly reduces the severity of the impact on the brain .

A 30-year-old, seeing the message on the advantages of wearing protective headgear in a waiting room near the emergency ward of a hospital, started using a helmet. He sustained a head injury and came back with a fractured helmet. The small bleed in the brain required observation for a few days.

It is almost always the same story for the minority who use helmets. Unfortunately the majority still prefer a severely injured brain to a fractured helmet. They do not realise that head injuries occurring in those wearing helmets are almost never critical.
