BAKRE, an artist who has spent the greater part of his life abroad, came home (to coastal Murud, Janjira) where he has lived a secluded life except for three exhibitions between 1983 and now.
Sadanand Krishnaji Bakre's retrospective is currently on show at the Son et Lumiere (22160086) after a show at the Jehangir art gallery which was, interestingly enough, set up by the first baronet at the collective urgings of the Progressive Artists Group that Bakre co-founded with Ara, Souza, Gade, Raza and Husain.
All of whom made it BIG, Gade and Bakre excepted. At 82, Bakre has no regrets.
His oeuvre consists of personalised sepia-toned drawings (early period) landscapes and portraits painted in dazzling colours
