JUST in case one thought that Chennai is only full of Carnatic music and Bharatnaytam, think again. Other than the epithets that Chennai is indeed the musical capital of India it's also the place where different winds of culture and tradition blow over especially during December. And nothing exemplifies this more than the other festival where different strands of ideas find form and forum. Now into its fifth year The Other Festival is a tribute to the wide canvas of art and its various forms. Co-founded by Anita Ratnam, (Arangam Trust) and Ranvir Shah (Prakriti Foundation), this year the festival showcases "Antar Yatra", a history of Indian womanhood by Usha Ganguli (December 1); Stem Dance Theatre and the Amit Heri Group (December 2); "Dust", a collaborative venture by Arangam Dance Theatre and Dance Alloy from Pittsburgh, (December 3); Nritarutya from Bangalore, which features young dancers and a feature by Aditi Mangaldas (December 4); husband and wife team Allen and Karen, who perform solo and along with dancers of Chennai (December 5); Working Title from Bombay presents "Mahadevbhai" (1892-1942) a one person play (December 6); Contemporary Dance by Tribhangi Dance Theatre and Swans by modern dance exponent from Israel, Rina Schenfeld (December 7). All the events will be presented at the Chinmaya Heritage Center, Harrington Road.

"EXPLORING New Worlds"; "Study in the United States"; "America: A Learning Experience" and "Graduate Studies: Getting There". These are the subjects of a video discussion as part of group counselling session on higher education in the United States on December 5. This will be held at the United States Educational Foundation in India Reference Library, American Consulate General.
