THIS is 75 minutes of riveting performances. It is also an unusual topic that two young women have decided to tackle. For theatre actors, CELIA MEIRAS and LOUISE FITZGERALD, their play "Hannah and Hanna" meant delving deep into the psyche of refugees, the process of assimilation in a new country and the associated problems. Meiras, who is Spanish but lives in Britian, plays Hanna a Kosovan refugee seeking asylum in a small town in Britian. Fitzgerald is Hannah, a young British girl upset with the idea of refugees in her town. The play is "about exploring the dilemmas that the two girls face," said Meiras. "But at the same time both girls discover that actually they have a lot in common." Meiras said that she drew upon her own experiences recalling how a few refugee schoolmates were "always grumpy and aggressive". Both Fitzgerald and Meiras feel that they have learnt a lot since they put up the play; taking it around, they hope that others too will share in their experiences and perhaps be a little more tolerant.
