WINNER of the National Award presented by the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1986 and a member of the Society of Contemporary Artists since 1984, Aditya Basak's works have a haunting quality. The subtle colours accentuate the depth of his works. An exhibition of his paintings will be on at Art World, Ganeshpuram IIIrd Street from February 26 to March 3.

ODISSI is an Indian dance form but the dancer is from Malaysia. Ramli Ibrahim and his Sutra Dance Theatre perform at the Music Academy, TTK Road on February 24 at 6.30 p.m. courtesy the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

A short play by a great French poet presented by young students ... Watch out for "Conversation Symphonietta" by Jean Tardieu enacted by the students of French, AMM School at the Alliance Francaise Auditorium at 3.00 p.m. on February 28.

A one-day symposium on "Traditional South Indian Art Forms: Management of Revival Process" will focus on issues relating to revival of styles like Kalamkari, Mural paintings of Kerala and the Thanjavur paintings. This will include the socio-economic and cultural aspects too. The venue is Alliance Francaise and the date is March 1 between 10 a.m and 5 p.m.

FORUM Art Gallery, Chennai and Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore have organised "Time, Trace, Transitions" featuring the recent works of four leading representatives of the Madras School — S. G. Vasudev, C. Douglas, K. Muralidharan and Rm. Palaniappan. The works displayed are distinguished both by their methodological inheritance from the Madras School as well as by their significant departures in recent years.
