An explosive moment

LAURIE BAUM

THE Taurus Sun eclipses the Scorpio Moon on Friday, May 16, at 3:40 GMT, and then the Gemini Moon eclipses the Gemini Sun on Saturday, May 31, at 4:01 GMT. The May 16 Total Eclipse of the Moon will be visible from the western coast of India. The May 31 Annular Eclipse of the Sun will be visible from the Northwestern corner of India.

On a metaphysical level, these eclipses represent an opportunity to take your previously repressed energies and put them to a higher use. The message of these eclipses is that what you repress must be expressed. The pressure of these celestial events will expand all contracted energies. So many times, in modern society, people choose the polite or socially acceptable route over the honest, and possibly more difficult, path. Over time, the continual repression of true thoughts and feelings leads to a build-up of energy that eventually explodes. And while the original expression of the energy may have been manageable, the eventual explosion will not be under control.

So much of the planet now appears to be in turmoil for this very reason. Tension, truth, and intensity have been buried under the surface for so long that the buried energies have started to detonate in unpleasant and seemingly unstoppable ways.

The prayer for this time must be that all truth be brought to the surface for expression at the moment it is felt, no matter how unpleasant or displeasing to the ear of another, so that secrets and resentments don't take root underground.

The eclipses in and of themselves represent explosive moments in history because for a period of minutes, the light of the Sun is blocked by the Moon in the case of a solar eclipse, or the reflected light of the Full Moon is blocked by the Earth, in the case of a lunar eclipse. The disruption of the normal flow of solar and lunar light to planet Earth causes tremendous disruption of set patterns and structures. It is as if an eclipse causes a crack in the hourglass of time, and some of the sand inevitably seeps out, causing a reconfiguration of the whole system as the world tries to figure out how to add new granules of sand to the hourglass to keep it running as efficiently as it seemed to run before.

The eclipse cycle occurs every six months, creating a blip in the customary flow of time through the space of earth reality. The eclipses also create an opening for each of you to move to a higher reality. When the flow of light to Earth is interrupted, you can either passively allow circumstances around you to rearrange themselves in the altered state of time. Or, you can take an active stance to recreate your reality so it is a more accurate reflection of your true thoughts and feelings.

Consider what you might do in coming month to more actively rearrange your life to reflect the truth of who you are — not what others want you to be or what you want others to think you are. Just be you. In the end, it will be simpler for you to live according to your own truth. Once you live more in harmony with your own personal truth, your life will be more peaceful. And once you feel more peaceful, waves of peace and harmony will naturally emanate from your being, bringing peace to the whole world around you.

Also note that Mercury turns direct in Taurus on Tuesday, May 20, at 7:30 GMT, after being retrograde since Saturday, April 26. Prepare to move forward on plans that have been delayed. The Sun moves into Gemini on Wednesday, May 21, at 11:13 GMT. The solar transition from Taurus to Gemini will bring more movement, social interaction and mental activity to your life. Use the mutable, airy energy of Gemini to take short trips, complete business transactions, sign contracts, send correspondence and verbally explore new ideas. The Sun will be in Gemini until the Summer Solstice, when the Sun moves into Cancer, on Saturday, June 21, at 19:12 GMT.
