THE famous Japanese tea ceremony also involves Raku glazing and firing pots. Now here's a chance to try your hand at making, glazing and firing your own Raku pieces. A seven-day workshop for 12-year-olds and above will be on from May 15-21 (10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.) at Forum Art Gallery, Padmanabha Nagar, Adyar. Kaveri Bharath, a well-known potter who has trained under Ray Meekar of Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry, will conduct a creative Raku pottery workshop. The participants get to make the pieces, mix and use the glazes and fire them all in a small portable Raku kiln at the gallery. THE theatre group, Pareeksha, has chosen to celebrate its silver jubilee by performing plays on the second Sunday of every month. This month, May 11 will see the Tamil version of Vijay Tendulkar's "Kamala". Directed by Jnani, the show is at 6.30 p.m. at Dr. MGR Janaki Women's College Auditorium.

THE golden jubilee of Alliance Francaise is seeing a lot of action. This week, there's "Padukalam", a play by Koothu-p-pattarai on May 10 and 11 (7.00 p.m.). This is an episode from the Mahabharatha and is based on a ritual in which Bhima kills Duryodhana represented as an image in clay. Transposed into our time, the play relates a conflict between brothers over a small piece of land.

THIS one's for all those bitten by the acting/modelling bug. Alchemy is holding a workshop on modelling with the focus on acting and power of mind. The idea is to help participants understand the nuances of acting and give them an insight into the media industry. The workshop is from May 12-17 at 40, Besant Avenue, Adyar. ANIMATION is not always kids' stuff. Underscoring that point is the festival of French animation films presented by Alliance Francaise and the Embassy of France in India.
