THERE'S a special discount on membership during May 20-31 "Fiction Fortnight". The British Council Library is offering a 10 per cent discount on membership fees and 20 hours of free Internet access to new members. The NGMA Gallery Level 1 will be the venue (May 27, 6.00 pm) of a lecture by the twins, Amrit and Rabindra K.D. Kaur Singh on their works followed by a film screening of "Alone Together", a portrait of the artists.
A seminar on "Post Graduate Medical Study in the U.K." will be held May 30, 3.30 pm, in the British Council Library. The BC has also organised a Puppet show for children on Good and Evil on May 31, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the NGMA Auditorium. A theme in Amrit and Rabindra Singh's painting named "Guru Amar Destroys the Five Vices", the puppet show will be presented by Jumbo Kids. Call Isabella at 22823560 ext 126 to confirm participation.

FOSTER STOLTE, a new member of the consular corps here has been enlivening literary gatherings by bursting into performance poetry and song. At recent meeting, he'd brought some printouts of a Shel Silverstein song "The Unicorn", which is believed to be a mythical creature, but Silverstein's delightful song tells otherwise. The song can be accessed at www.niehs.nih.gov.kid/lyrics/unicorn.htm an environmental site with a sing-along section for visitors.

THE Atma Darshan Centre for Spirituality and Counselling has organised a programme on Vipassana Meditation (May 26-June 6). Also known as insight meditation, Vipassana is one of India's most ancient meditation techniques. It aims at the highest spiritual goals of total liberation and full enlightenment.
