Closer look

IT is an unusual topic for a college dissertation. But for Anaya Mohanty, this is a vexing problem. A student of Jamia Millia, Mohanty has made a 10-minute documentary called "The Chosen One" where she looks at the issue of hypocrisy through some of the practices at the Jagannath temple in Puri, where the priests do not allow a "non-Hindu" to enter and worship. Mohanty's film questions this hypocrisy and she points out that the priests at the temple are not Brahmins but belong to the Savara tribe. Having stirred up a debate on the subject, Mohanty now plans to do a 40-minute film on the same subject. She has got dancer, Madhumita Raut to work with her on this project.
