Kolkata

"NEW BEGINNINGS" is the title for the inaugural show of the newest art gallery in Kolkata: Idiyas Gallery. Started by Diya Jaiswal whose interest goes back to the time when she was working at Grindlays and curated an art gallery for the bank, Idiyas intends to showcase the works of established Indian masters together with the creations of the country's emerging talent. Thus the exhibition has oils and drawings by venerable names like Suhas Roy and Prokash Karmakar along with younger talent like Shyamal Apto and Tapas and Subrato. The new and old theme is reflected in the range of media as well: paintings share the space with experimental scultptures of fibre glass, black and white marble, bronze, metal and terracotta. New Beginnings is on till August 18.
