Store of novelties

FROM THE house of hi-design comes the novel store, the brainchild of Jackie Kapur. With the original store a runaway success in Pondicherry, Casablanca, which opened recently in Chennai, exudes class and style, as is evident from its layout at the Ispahani Centre.

A range of fashion garments in linen for men and women, T-shirts from Thailand, shawls, embroidered purses and slippers are all displayed well.

Victoria's bath soaps and toiletries are stocked in small barrels, inviting one to take a closer look.

An unusual range of silver jewellery, carefully sourced by Jackie, makes a gleaming display across the store. Hair clips and trinkets all reasonably priced are certain to charm young girls. The stylish sunglasses at once attract one's attention. Climb the wooden stairway and one has an amazing array of jewellery to choose from. A little further beyond is the home needs section, which has a choice selection of pottery from the famed Golden Bridge, Pondicherry, steel ware, dhurries from Magpie and exquisite zardosi-worked cushions. The kalamkari also looks good, as do the zardosi rugs. An elegant boudoir-like setting has been created, with scattered cushions, rugs and silk drapes.

Lovely floating candles in pastel shades add a romantic touch to the ambience, along with large pots, artificial flowers and unique gem-studded geckos in various colours. Casablanca, despite its innate style, is an extremely cosy place to shop at and different in many ways. The prices are pleasing too.
