Melting beauties

Kanchana's `Seventh Sense' designer candles are masterpieces in wax. Beautifully sculpted, the candles come in attractive colours.

Kanchana's handcrafted `Seventh Sense' designer candles glow in the Christmas warmth and festive cheer.

Sculpted, chiselled and etched beautifully, they will be on display at an exclusive one-day charity sale exhibition on December 15 at Chola Sheraton's Shrishti Art Gallery.

The exhibition will showcase wax art at its creative best — floating roses, star candles, tiny mushroom candles, pillar candles and petrified jell candles in a magical medley of mauve, pink, blue, orange, yellow and the Christmas colours of green, red and white!

Kanchana's repertoire also includes candles shaped like X'mas trees and Santa, cut-out and twisted candles, flare candles for the garden and `printed' candles on which any graphic of one's choice can be printed! Incredible?

Well, the `Seventh Sense' collection includes wish candles and exotic aroma therapy candles — from juniper, jasmine and jujoba to lavender and lemon, from frankincense to rosemary, sandalwood to thyme...

Seventh Sense's `Blow in the dark' range of fluorescent candles need not be lighted and glow in the dark on their own.

How one wishes though that one didn't have to light up and melt Kanchana's masterpieces. Meticulously executed friezes give the impression of carvings on soft stone.

A large-sized jade coloured Buddha is among the `sculptural' candles along with an attractive range of pink, mauve, primrose and yellow floral bouquets.

``I am at it, every day", says Kanchana. "I experiment and innovate as I work, sometimes candles themselves metamorphose and present new ideas''.

Special features that distinguish Kanchana's designer candles are their `seamless' structure, the use of non-toxic dyes and long `burn time.' Pure essential oils are used in the making of these candles.

Where does Chennai's candle artist go from here? In search of newer and more exciting concepts and structures for dressing up the basic unit of light and the joyous glow it brings to the world.

The `Seventh Sense' Charity Sale Exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to11.30 p.m.
