Laugh for a cause

YOU CAN be a rasika and support a social cause too. The Rotary Club of Madras T.Nagar in association with Rajan Eye Care Hospital will be issuing one season ticket for a sponsorship of Rs. 1,500 for the Margazhi Comedy Drama Festival featuring Y.G.Mahendra and his famous UAA troupe. The festival will be held from December 21 to 26 at 6.45 p.m. at the P.T.Thyagarayar Hall, G.N. Chetty Road.

The plays to be staged include: Dec 21 - Lights on, Dec 22 - Ragasyam parama ragasyam, Dec 24 - Ithu nyayama sir, Dec 25 - Andha 7 aatkal and Dec 26 - Vethilaipetti Veerappan.

All the plays have been directed by Y.Gee Mahendra.

The Rotary Rajan Eye Bank and Chennai Vision Charitable Trust for the past seven years have been doing yeomen service in the field of community ophthalmology which has benefited many poor patients.

Till now they have held 250-eye camps, performed cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation for more than 10,000 patients free of cost.

The Rotary Rajan Eye Bank is a project of the Rotary Club of Madras T.Nagar with round-the-clock facilities for collecting and storing eyes. The aim of the bank is to spread awareness on eye donation and to eradicate curable corneal blindness.

The club has set for itself an ambitious target of 30,000 cataract surgeries. A donation of Rs. 1,500 will cover the cost of the lens and will also help perform one cataract surgery with IOL on the date specified by the person giving the donation.

So, while you have a hearty laugh watching the comedy plays, you will also be putting the smile back on the face of a poor and needy.
