IT IS not quite like the pumpkin, which turned by the wave of a wand, into a beautiful coach! But the stroke of a brush dipped in all the colours of the rainbow, coupled with artistic imagination, can definitely transform the most mundane of utilitarian objects into decorative pieces to enliven your home.
So, rummage into your attic or that ancient trunk and get out all those forgotten utensils, tins! And begin your make-over job of transforming them into objet d' art.
Manasthala's (Cenotaph Road) workshop on Everyday Art or "How to turn a Kettle into a Work of Art", which opens today, strives to look beyond the mere utility of objects.
The workshop is being conducted by Pune based artist and psychologist, Meenal Chowdhury.
She has transformed windows into lyrical canvases of stained glass art, a fridge into a modern art frame, a steel almirah into a Japanese scroll... these are but a few examples.
The participants can bring any `trashed' or old object, which can be converted into a canvas. The medium could be aluminium, wood, tin, iron, cane, reed mat etc.
The workshop is as much about bringing art into everyday life as about a voice against the throwaway culture, and to top it all it's pure creative fun.
At an exhibition-cum-sale Manasthala presents a range of articles, which have got a new lease of life with a fresh coat of paint.
Pretty glass chimneys strewn with daisies, kadai and dosai griddles dressed in red and green floral themes, old kettles with painted flowers... each item is a creative wonder.
There are lovely treated morams, which come alive in red and yellow. Old aluminium milk cans too have not been spared.
The workshop and exhibition concludes on January 12.
