Celebrate the season
DAKSHINACHITRA will perhaps be the most happening place this month. February-March is that time of the year when it comes alive with a variety of activities for young and old alike.
In keeping with its tradition, Dakshinachitra plans to celebrate the onset of spring with a "Vasantha Vizha" from February 10 to March 10. It will feature interesting demonstrations and interactive activities for school children.
These include pottery, palm leaf decoration, copra carving, handmade paper, glass blowing, folk performances, mehndi, face painting etc. Usually around 2,000 children participate in the vizha. February 15-28 will see craftsmen from Orissa display their products. Working under the banner Orissa Rural Development Marketing Society, the village level offices of the society assist craftspersons with the manufacture and marketing of diverse products ranging from lac, handlooms, Khewda mata and boxes to patchwork items.
Kolam - known by different names in different parts of the country is done in front of most homes. A kolam exhibition using varied mediums such as colour powder, flowers, grains, sawdust, salt and sand, as well as, the traditional South Indian `maavu' kolam will be held from February 15-19.
