COME FEBRUARY and it is time for the British Education fair. The fair opened in Hyderabad and Bangalore earlier this month. In Chennai, it is scheduled for February 22 and 23, from 12 noon to 7.00 p.m., at the Taj Coromandel.
The U.K. is making itself a more welcome destination for Indian students, who are looking for a world-class education. Adding to the attraction is the recent policy changes initiated by British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. Today it is easier for students to study and work in the U.K., there are more scholarships - Chevening and institutional, improved visa service, no need to leave the U.K. to obtain a work permit if you have a job offer after your course.
Britain has long been a popular destination for undergraduate study for Indian students. With more than 80 universities to apply to and over 2000 colleges and schools, one has a fairly broad spectrum of subjects to choose from.
Academics from 65 U.K. institutions will participate in the fair. Counselling services will help students decide on the courses of their choice and advice on admission procedures. Direct interaction with academics will give students the latest information on a variety of courses, ranging from business studies, IT, media and environmental studies to biotechnology and engineering.
Seminars have also been organised to help visitors on various fronts like how to apply and choose the right programme. For details, contact the British Council, Anna Salai or log on to www.educationuk-in.org
