AN ECLECTIC ensemble of the country's finest designerwear in saris, Indian and Indo-Western outfits, jewellery, handbags and shoes and home linen... the second Vimonisha Private Collection will be on show from February 21-23 at its gallery on Khader Nawaz Khan Road.
The exhibition-cum-sale will feature Sakina Shakeer of D'zined Weaves, Mumbai, with a range of cotton and silk blended saris, woven specially at handloom centres in Bhagalpur. Sakina's innovative touch is obvious in all her designs. Her saris resemble the pashmina weaves and this makes them unique. Sometimes a blend of jute or wool is incorporated to create novel textures. Only natural dyes are used and hence, her creations come in earthy colours.
For those with a penchant for the rich textiles of Bengal, Anusua is back in Chennai with a trove of specially designed saris, including batiks, exquisite kantha embroidery, block prints and hand painted saris. Dress materials in chiffon, crepe, silk and Bhagalpuri pashmina tussars and cottons will also be on show. Her new collection reflects the contemporary styles and tribal/folk arts of Bengal and offers a wide variety from the typical alpana designs to geometrical motifs.
While Etthno's of Bangalore has put together an ensemble of cotton designer suits both Indian and Western styles - for the picking. Mumbai-based Shikha will present a chic collection of salwar suits (unstitched and tailored), besides jewellery. An array of Indo-Westerns from Mumbai-based Moksh, and ethnic salwar suits and handmade blouses from Tradition of Lucknow will also be part of the display.
Handbags and shoes to match, crafted in silk, dupion, tissue, lame and denim, embroidered with crystals, sequins and semi-precious stones - the handiwork of Art Apparel, Mumbai, are sure to make ideal evening wear.
Apart from designer apparel and accessories there is also a wide range of linen, upholstery and furnishing, courtesy Amara Home Furnishings, ChennaiThe sale is to be inaugurated on February 21 at 10.30 a.m. by Suhasini Mani Ratnam. For further information, contact 8279815/8278911.
