For young minds

CHILDREN TODAY seem to be missing out on valuable story sessions with grandmas. Most working parents hardly have time to make children understand and appreciate our tradition and beliefs.

Kriya Kreative Sound's (ph: 8222266) The Heritage for Young People series hopes to help children enjoy the beautiful aspects of our culture.

Kriya's maiden audio production, "Mahavishnu" will be released today at Hotel Tulip-Aruna, (formerly Quality Inn Aruna), 144, Sterling Road at 7 p.m. by Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti. The first copy will be received by danseuse Anita Ratnam and classical vocalist Nithysree Mahadevan.

"Mahavishnu" contains excerpts from prominent slokas and chants, a glimpse of the festivals and legends surrounding Lord Vishnu and the saints and devotees of the Vaishnavite tradition. A small book of slokas, chants and musical pieces will help children learn them faster.

The style is easy, appealing and modern.

Deepak Dev, a young composer has provided the background score and tunes that beautifully blend the traditional and modern musical notes. Playback singer Srinivas and Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri have lent their voices to the compositions.

Want to know all about Indian legends and traditions? Listen to "Mahavishnu".
