Earthen elegance
CATERING FOR the tastes of a refined clientele in Anna Nagar and surrounding areas, "The Heritage" arts and crafts boutique now comes to the heart of Chennai with a grand exhibition-cum-sale called "Terra Magic and More."
Among the highlights are exclusive and intricately hand crafted corner stands - two feet to three-and-half ft tall — painted with Egyptian motifs. There will be a range of terracotta masks, some in pairs, expressing a gamut of emotions. Over 30 types of centre tables, with artistically created terracotta bases and designer glass tops, priced Rs.5,000 upwards will be on show. What makes the tables unique is that the designs are not repeated. Around two-dozen murals on various themes are another special feature. The piece de resistance among these, created to coincide with the Chinese "Year of the Horse" is a mural of majestic, galloping horses. Also attractive are the murals with figures that have been inspired by temple architecture.
The wood and bamboo Ganesha panels (priced Rs. 750 upwards) are a statement of aesthetic refinement. For those who want to perk up drab walls, the raw silk wall hangings (priced Rs.550 onwards) are a worthwhile buy.
Some of the other items on display are: oil paintings depicting rural life with a three-dimensional touch, Ravi Varma reproductions and rare idols and figurines, both abstract and realistic.
