Chords & Notes

COMPANY

T-Series

THIS TRACK from yet another Bollywood movie on the underworld has begun to make waves even before it has been mounted for public viewing. `Khalas' the song titled on a typical underground lingo is already making its way up the musical charts.

Of the eight numbers on the audio disc, `Khalas' sung by Asha Bhonsle, Sudesh Bhonsle, Sapna Awasthi, appears twice, including a re-mix version. And little prizes for guessing why the number is moving up on the popularity charts. Set to score by Sandeep Chowta, two of the numbers -- A Shot of Company and Malik's Soul -- are worth listening. While the former has notes that have distinct leanings from a popular Western thriller, the latter is purely instrumental.

SAROD FOR HARMONY

BMG Crescendo, Rs 90

AS THE title goes, the sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his two sons, Amman Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash feature in this audio produced by BMG Crescendo (India) Pvt Ltd.

The cassette is a live recording from New York's Carnegie Hall and except for the voice over by the maestro, the music is simply enthralling. The selection is in fact a tribute to the title as each piece is not only soothing but also leaves the listener experiencing serenity. Compositions in 10 and 16 beats on the first side are a treat.

The cassette has one offer for even those who have never lent their ear to sarod, specially by the Ustad.

HUM KISISE KUM NAHIN

T-Series, Rs 55

DURABLE MELODY has never been the strong point of David Dhawan's films. The tradition continues with "Hum Kisise Kum Nahin'', a multi-starrer scheduled for release this summer.

Anu Malik, now Maliik, comes up with racy, zany tunes which will gets youngsters voting for this album with their toes. The first track, "Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai'' is already a big hit and is being aired on all the music channels.

Other songs in this cassette may not be as fast and fresh but Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan combine to come up with songs that will be listened as long as the film plays in the cinema halls. Do watch out for Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik's "Dulhe Raja'' at the end of this album. This song is a steal and may just contend with the opener for the favourite slot. Worth a buy even if you won't find yourself listening to this album at the same time next year.
