No brick-in-the-wall show, this

Is there a more inspiring pop classic than `Another brick in the wall'? The man behind this great spirit of defiance, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, will bring many such wonderful songs alive for Bangalore audiences later this month, says MONISHA VARADAN.

Roger Waters, the pop legend.

THE COUNTDOWN to the show has begun. With only a few days left for Roger Waters, the creative genius of Pink Floyd, to arrive in the City, audiences from across the country are flocking to the South to get their share of space at Bangalore's largest ever rock show.

To be held on April 13 (at 7.30 p.m.), the concert is hoping to hold together dazzling visual and audio effects, surround sound, and an audience of 30,000. The DNA Networks has pulled out all stops and beaten themselves at their own game.

Roger Waters, the most awaited artiste and world-renowned star is performing for the first time in this part of India. The concert is being brought to Bangalore by BPL, in association with Pepsi, MTV, and Sony.

The other sponsors associated with the event are Standard Chartered, ITC Windsor Sheraton, Radio Indigo, Planet M, Indian Express, and Rave Magazine.

Some of the details about the event, issued by DNA, are mind-boggling. Roger Waters will be flying in on his private jet with 32 tonnes of equipment. The show has its own projections and audio-visuals, synonymous with the Floyd experience. This will be the only event in India which will carry quadra phonic sound and

surround sound throughout the show. The show will last three hours, without an opening act and with a 20-minute interval. The show will showcase all the luminous psychedelic graphics and signature technology effects of a Floyd show.

Although a Roger Waters concert, the show will contain hit songs of Pink Floyd, some being "Another brick in the wall", "Wish you were here", "Shine on you crazy diamond", "Money", "Time", "Breathe", "Comfortable numb", and "Animals".

Some of the sound effects include thundering helicopters, wailing sirens, cash registers, alarm clocks, and dogs barking, all rendered by an 11-piece band of top musicians accomp anying Roger Waters. The event will be featured as a television documentary on a popular television network.

Tickets, surprisingly, unlike other DNA produced events, are priced rather high. Mr. Venkat Vardhan, Managing Director, DNA Networks, attributed this to the high quality of the show. Fans, on the other hand, say that investing in a ticket works out much cheaper than travelling to another country to witness the performance by this legendary artiste. The tickets are priced at Rs. 900, Rs. 1,500, and Rs. 2,500. There are three enclosures, and the infrastructural arrangements are supposed to be better than in the earlier shows. To provide an opportunity for all the Floyd fans across the City to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event, DNA has tied up with travel agents to provide a two-day, one-night travel package along with the show tickets.

At the press conference announcing the event, DNA put together a video presentation on an interview with Roger Waters. Asked why he is back on to the stage and touring the world, he said he was claiming his music legacy from the band and was a performer in his own right. Roger Waters formed the groundbreaking Pink Floyd in 1966 with Syd Barrett and became the group's sonic architect, creating undeniable classics such as the ''Dark side of the moon''.

Tickets for the show are also available at select outlets such as Pro-Fx, MG Road, Viveks in Jayanagar and Indiranagar, Amoeba on Church Street, and the BPL Gallery on KH Road.
