Forum for book lovers
Wielding the willow is not the only way to compile a century. There are other ways too. New Century Book House (NCBH) has compiled its own century in a unique way. Daily book review meetings were held from October 5, 2001, to April 24, 2002, to celebrate the Year of the Book (2001-2002).
The secretary, Subramaniam, is confident that NCBH will find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Over these months, books in Tamil in all genres of writing were reviewed.
The daily programmes were organised by the New Century Readers' forum through NCBH.
"The Readers' forum evolved in an atmosphere of informality. Bibliophiles, from all walks of life, who attended the meetings, formed the forum. The NCBH provided encouragement in this direction," says T. R. Elangovan, convenor, New Century Readers' Forum.
