BY BRINGING an adventurous child (Sahasa Baludu) and a strange monkey (Vichitra Kothi) together, along with forest officer Vijaya, the drama for a murky plot is set. The film opens showing Vikas' (Master Anvesh) mother Jaya (Sudha) teaching her son to chant Anjaneya Mantra - an obvious prelude for introducing a chimpanzee in the theme.
On noticing the chained chimp in a zoo, Vikas quietly releases it from the cage, after befriending it by offering fruits. His father (Saratbabu) silences the zoo officials by signing out a cheque for Rs. 10 lakh as compensation. Thus commences the entertaining part of the film, featuring the chimp mostly.
Soon the animal reaches Vikas' home and the boy hides it in his room, fearing his parents may return it to the zoo. There follow some funny adventures of Chimpu with Vikas finally leaving it in the woods.
The second part is comparatively a serious drama with sentiment playing upper hand. Vijaya (Vijayasanti) arrives at her sister Jaya's place to meet their grandmother. And, Vikas' family go with her into the forest for a holiday.
Meanwhile, Krishna (Costume Krishna) reveals to his accomplice (Mallikarjuna Rao) that his younger brother Sarat had plans of adopting his son, as the couple was childless. But, before the adoption could materialise, Sarat and Jaya are blessed with Vikas thus robbing Krishna of his chances to appropriate Sarat's property. Now a grown-up man, Krishna's son (Sivaji Raja) also goes to the forest along with the family.
Thinking it is the right time to kill the boy, Krishna pushes Vikas into the valley and then makes a ruckus about the `accident'. Vijaya hurries to the place and commences her rescue act, helped by a forest guard. But, the boy safely lands in some bushes below where he finds his friend Chimpu. The two indulge in some adventures before Vijaya draws the drama to a close.
Nallamala forest scenes prove to be the ultimate draw of the film, attracting children especially. The forest scenes, however, stagnate in endless search for the boy. Some weird tribal characters and some extremists are also brought into play.
Vijayasanti gets into this action part with full steam. Master Anvesh and the well-trained chimp contribute to most of the fun. Saratbabu, Sudha, Krishna and Mallikarjuna Rao play their roles with ease. Keeravani's music score suits the mood of the film.
