Sidhu in seasonal form

CULT STATUS: Navjot Singh Sidhu

NAVJOT SIDHU'S colourful comments on cricket have acquired their own cult following, with websites sporting Sidhuisms, and his fellow commentators putting the ball in his court whenever a pithy sum-up of the day's play, the character of individual players, the state of the pitch or any other cricketing point is required. But there are signs that the former batsman has been taking his newfound avatar as cricketing oracle too seriously. Some of his comments defy all attempts to decipher them - what is meant by being `roasted at the devil's dinner'? Others may bring a blush to an old maiden's cheeks - remember what he said about the third umpire's eyesight? But all this can be forgiven when Sidhu has the last word on Kumble's going out to bowl with his fractured jaw. Pointing with both fingers at the camera, our much-imitated Sikh said, "Courage, thy name is Kumble". Shakespeare, anyone?
