This is the time to visit London for Bollywood is there. A star-studded extravaganza which began on May 24 will continue for the next three weeks at Selfridges, the big department store at Oxford Street. Who knows you may meet celebrities and win attractive prizes.

THIS PAST week Selfridges in London opened to a star-studded Bollywood extravaganza attended by an audience of 1400 actors, cine fans and a host of international media. This grand marketing event was principally sponsored by the Taj Group of Hotels, which is not only the provider of culinary expertise during the `23-1/2- day of Bollywood' event, but will also provide a window of world class Indian hospitality. In fact 51, Buckingham Gate a Taj property will play host to a colloquial college of Indian film celebrities.
This gala event transformed Selfridges -- known over the years as a bastion of British style and society -- into a dramatic Bollywood stage set, to launch the store's `23-1/2 days of Bollywood' promotion from May 24 -- in London and Manchester.
Sari glitterati rubbed shoulders with the cream of British society in a cinematic celebration of the Hindi film industry, where the vibrant contrasting colours and flavours of India provided a sensory feast.
The script for the evening included excerpts from the musical Bombay Dreams, and dance shows, while guests were treated to Indian delicacies provided by Taj's brigade of top chiefs.
Celebrity guests included Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia and her daughter Rinke Khanna, Madhuri Dixit with husband Dr. Sriram Nene in tow, Sanjay Bhaskar; designers Abu Jani, Sandeep Khosla and famous art director Nitin Desai, music composer Andrew Lloyd Webber; and the Managing Director of the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Places, R.K. Krishna Kumar.
As the main sponsors of the Bollywood promotion, Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces, took over the London kitchens of Selfridges, their team of 22 chefs bringing the store alive with the flavours of India.
For those not privy to the exclusive launch event, there will be the chance to sample the culinary delights of top chefs - Hemant Oberoi, Corporate Chief of the Taj Luxury Hotels in Mumbai and Ananda Solomon, Corporate Chief of the Taj Business Hotels in Mumbai -- since Taj will be lending its culinary expertise for the duration of the Selfridges' promotion.
Together with their teams, both chefs will be in London cooking with Vikram Sunderam, the Executive Chief of the Bombay Brasserie and Aylur Sriram, the Executive Chef of Quilon Restaurant, two London restaurants that are also owned and managed by Taj Hotels.
In keeping with the Bollywood theme, a number of stage sets have been constructed within the stores, one of which, situated in the foyer, replicates the exterior of the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces worked on this replica in conjunction with Selfridges and the Indian set designer, Nitin Desai.
Throughout the promotion, shoppers visiting both stores will have the opportunity to enter a number of fabulous competitions to win holidays to India, staying at Taj hotels, including the top prize of a luxury seven-night stay in a magnificent suite at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai.
