RANG MAHAL, a weavers' organisation, which encourages the skills of rural artisans of Nadia district, West Bengal, is back again in Chennai with a varied collection of hand woven fabrics, which are on show at the C.P. Arts Centre, 1 Eldams Road, Alwarpet from today till June 22.
Chennai-ites can splurge on a range of sarees in cotton and silk, besides dress materials. There will, of course, also be a range of Bengal cottons in elegant hues and weaves. An added attraction this time is that each saree is accompanied by a separate blouse piece. Prices start from Rs. 400 upwards.
The collection includes traditional Jamdani weaves ideal for a trousseau or as partywear (priced Rs. 800 upwards); casuals with scattered buttas on the body and fancy pallav designs (priced Rs. 400 upwards); sarees with intricate aari, banni, kambira and butta work and Jamdani woven and embroidered dress materials (priced Rs. 900 upwards). In response to popular demand, this time the accent is on "featherlite, heatcool dress materials."
