Story of a rock

The Jadayu Rock, situated about 50 km north of the city at Chadayamangalam, is a monument worth visiting.

Mythology has it that Jadayu, the legendary bird of the Ramayana, died here, after a fierce duel with Ravana.

The main rock is thought of by many as the fossilised body of Jadayu and hence the name Jadayu rock.

The impression of a footprint on the surface of the rock is believed to be that of Lord Rama.

There is something special about the pond nearby. The water never dries.

The main and the topmost rock, surrounded by a vast stretch of rocky terrain, constitute the Jadayu rock, which spreads over an area of nearly hundred acres. Devotees installed an idol of Rama atop the main rock a few decades ago.

The path leading to the spot, which is a few hundred meters high from ground level, is not easy to traverse.

The view one gets from the top is breathtaking.
