Scorpion King in city

IT'S ACTION time, folks. And joining the ranks of Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Sylvestor `Rambo' Stallone and Jean Claude Van-Damme is `The Rock', hugely popular the world over as the mighty sensation of WWF wrestling.

The movie could perhaps be described as happening prior to the two films (a prequel), in the Mummy series. It is set in ancient Egypt and the story happens 5,000 years ago.

It shows how a peasant assassin wreaks revenge on a marauding army who pillaged his village... and how he eventually becomes the First Pharaoh of Egypt, known as `the Scorpion King'...

Memnon, the ruthless warlord slaughters and enslaves the scattered people of the desert. He struck with merciless precision and a seer plotted the strategies. The tribes who are not at all natural allies, unites against Memnon who seems to be invincible.

They seeks the services of Mathayus,a man descended from generations of Akkadian assassins skilled in the deadly arts.

Mathayus succeeds in entering Memnon's palace in the notorious city of Gomorrah and discovers that the visionary is in fact a woman, the evil Cassandra. He decides not to kill her and takes her as a hostage instead, deep into the desolate valley of the dead.

Though Cassandra predicted death for Mathayus if he continues his fight, he chooses to go by his own instincts. He has lived by the simple but profound creed of his people-"live free, die well". He creates his own destiny. With that conviction, he transcends his heritage and from an assasin to... ... ... ... ... ..become the Scorpion King.

Dwayne `The Rock' Johnson excels in his role as Mathayus a.k.a The Scorpion King, Kelly Hu plays Cassandra, Steven Brand is Memnon and Michael Clarke Duncan, Oscar nominated for his performance in `The Green Mile' portrays Mathayus' reluctant ally, Balthazar.

Universal Pictures produces the film along with WWF entertainment. Chuck Russell, known for his earlier movies like `The Mask' and `Eraser', directs this action-historical-horror film.

The visual effects are top notch and the casting, perfect.

Something for young'uns to look forward to in the city all right.
