Tell-tale signs

HERE ARE a few identifying factors of children with learning disability, taken from the Handbook on Poor School Performance, a CBSE publication.

However, it may be pointed out that when considering these symptoms, only proper assessment by an expert panel will give the final diagnosis.

Pointers for Pre-school Children:

Delayed development in speech.

Poor clarity in speech, poor language development.

Did not crawl, delay in walking.

Clumsy, excessive tripping and bumping.

Difficulty in buttoning, tying shoe laces and using crayons.

Difficulty in picking up rhymes, names of colours and shapes.

Difficulty in narrating stories in sequence.

Reversing alphabets and numbers.

Confusion with left and right. Poor attention, concentration.

Pointers for school-going children:

Read slowly with omissions and additions of letters, lines etc.

Slow in writing, poor spellings, grammar and sentence construction

Confusion between left and right

Poor in Maths, confused with arithmetic signs.
