Take your own decisions
KRIS COLEKRIS COLE
WE ALL know people who `carry their own weather with them.' They don't need sunshine to be happy or other people to put them in a good mood. A bit of rain doesn't get them down and it takes more than an unexpected setback to ruin their day.
This is more than just `looking on the bright side' or having a `positive mental attitude.' It's about who pulls our strings. We can control our own thoughts, our own feelings, and what we say and do.
When we pull our own strings, we decide whether we'll be happy or sad. We decide whether we'll be courteous to someone even though they've just been rude to us.
Some people don't pull their own strings. They surrender this to other people, situations or events. They let that rude man dictate their behaviour. They let poor service in a shop or restaurant spoil their good time. They'll even let stormy weather get them down!
Eleanor Roosevelt said: `No one can make us feel inferior without out consent.' In fact, no one can make us feel or do anything unless we let them. Not if we make sure we pull our own strings.
