Put your best foot forward

Did you know that star signs rule the choice of footwear?

The Fire signs comprising Leo, Aries and Sagittarius choose the kind of footwear that makes an impact. They prefer designer labels, bright colours and impractical heels. People born under this sign tend to be swayed by new trends.

Earth signs such as Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn go in for classic style. They tend to buy leather and suede foot wears. Their shoes are most often in pristine condition.

Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, belonging to the Air sign category, choose to buy their footwear from discount sales. They tend to go in for unusual styles. Their footwear are hardly ever in chic' condition.

The Water signs are most likely to choose handmade footwear. Luxury and simplicity of style are the hallmark of their choice. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces belong to the Water sign category.

While buying your footwear, rather than run after the latest trendy shoes, sling backs and stilettos, check out if they really suit your feet, and are comfortable to walk in.

The 40s and 50s had chunky heels or square block heels that weighed an awful lot. The newer ones with the same kind of heels are lighter and more practical to wear. Such heels are better for evening wear than the thin pencil heels. Chunky, block heels help to balance weight and look good with palazzo pants, trousers, knee length pencil skirts or dresses. Avoid these kinds of footwear when you wear short skirts or tight-fitting trousers.

Mules look glamorous and chic. It's one of the most adaptable styles and the heels come in all sorts of shapes and heights. Flat mules are very comfortable but they might end up looking like flip-flop. Mules go well with eveningwear, dress and faded jeans. Avoid wearing them with tights and pants.

The sling backs are modelled on the style of the 60s. The shoe front is low and has a strappy back. These look good on women with short legs. Sling backs with a high hemline can result in a stunning style. Sling backs go well with pencil skirts, dresses, tight trousers. Don't wear them with wide trousers, jeans or long skirts with flairs.

If it is eveningwear that you wish to wear go in for high heels, stilettos and pointed varieties. But make sure you can walk comfortably in them. So instead of splurging on all the latest footwear, choose the ones that suit your feet, make your legs look great and then walk in style.
