Happy Birthday to you
ORGANISING A Kids Birthday party needs careful, ahead of time planning. Before the arrival of D-day or rather B-Day, a lot of organisation is required.
Choosing a theme:
Ideas of themes for kiddie's parties should be ones with which the child can identify and not what parents' think is fashionable. Many Indian children are not familiar with western concepts but parents have theme parties with far-fetched ideas, which the child cannot relate to.
Planning the menu:
Keep to an unfussy menu. Cake is the focal point of a birthday party. Order or bake a big cake as kids reveal enormous appetite when it comes to cakes. Sandwiches with simple fillings, potato wafers and jam biscuits are all time favourites. If you want to go traditional try halwas, laddoos, payasam and puri-aloo.
Avoid aerated drinks and serve fresh juices or squashes, which are healthy.
Decorations:
If there is a theme party, decorations have to be related to the theme. Balloons and streamers are gay and bright and not expensive. If the children at home can cut, paste and do the craft work for the buntings, it can be wonderful.
Organising games:
Outdoor games are best if possible, for furniture and walls remain free from stains by little hands and feet. Musical chairs, Passing the parcel are games, which generate great fun. Team games are exciting too.
Prizes:
This is the tricky part of the party as it is not advisable to have a first or second prize for one or two children. A small participation prize can be awarded to all kids. A mother rightly said, " These games are no competitions rather friendship sport". Keep to that spirit.
Return presents:
Keep Bye-Bye gifts simple and related to the theme. Pencils, erasers and sharpeners always come in handy to a child. Creative parents can always innovate but care must be taken not to go overboard in this field.
Thank you: In the party euphoria the little child often forgets to thank the guests. Ask him to do so as his friends make the party.
For a kid's party keep stain remover, mops, brooms and cleaning equipment within reach. After the final bye-byes, the home seems overrun by a storm but do not panic, for these scenes are worth every effort taken. Go about cleaning, slowly and happily.
