LEARNING ROPES: A classroom in progress.
YOU WATCH the shows and get enthused by the gizmos and the fireworks. But how would it be being back stage and making it happen? The Hyderabad chapter of the National Institute of Event Management (NIEM), a joint venture between NIEM Mumbai and city based Rhythm Entertainment Private Ltd, offers you just that with a curriculum that comprises 30:70 theoretical and practical concepts mix respectively. At the end of it all, you could be an event manager, production manager or co-ordinator in a television house.
"The course is designed for entrepreneurs with focus on building leadership qualities," says managing director I.Vishnu Vardhan, who has been into event management since his Intermediate days as the founder president of Vijayawada Young Citizen Association organising several anti-drugs and AIDS awareness campaigns successfully. "In fact we were the people to bring in the concept of Miss Andhra," he says. The other centres of NIEM are at Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Dehradun.
As for the course, the one year part time diploma comprises modules in basic event accounting, communication and presentation skills, planning, team leadership, event laws and logistics, insight into the present day event management scenario with case studies from Indian and international event management realms, with faculty brought in from Mumbai for the major sections of the course.
IN ACTION: Organising shows as part of curriculum.
"Mostevents are national where most of our students would work and get their practical training such as Publicis, Stage Kraft, KEM, Dreamz Promotion, C. Factory and Club Millenium," says Vishnu. The `films stars for freedom fighters' event held on August 15 at Vijayawada recently was one such event where the first batch of students got a first hand training on the practical side of the profession.
Open to under graduates with no upper age limit, the classroom has a lively audience comprising students at first year graduation, executives and housewives. "It is a creative course. I have been looking forward for enrolling in such a course earlier but could not do so for lack of opportunity. This is for the first time that such a course is being conducted in the city," says Sunil, a banker.
With the plethora of events happening in the twin cities, the professional initiation into event management is one avenue that has been sought after by the young today. "It's conducting events, having fun and earning money at the same time," says Kirti, a student. It is the `we dare to dream and care to achieve' attitude with the class sitting pretty sure on what they have chosen for their line of profession.
The course fee comprises a one-time fee of Rs. 19,600 inclusive of the admission fee, practical training fee, study notes and exam fee. Classes are held thrice a week at the NIEM premises, Plot No. 86, Kavuri Hills, Madhapur. NIEM can be reached on 6344411, 3112034.
