Holi... Aditya Music... Rs. 38
WHILE LISTENING to the album, one wonders why R.P. Patnaik, who was so much against non-Telugu singers singing for his compositions and went all out to encourage the local talent, suddenly changed his mind. In the album Holi, one finds non-Telugu singers like Kavitha Krishnamurthy, K.K. and Sadhana Sargam dominating the scene. The only consolation: R.P.'s own renditions. By now, it is an accepted fact that R.P. and Udaykiran are a team. He composed music for almost all the films that Udaykiran did. Recognising the actor's talent, R.P. gave him a chance to try his hand at singing too. So, Life is beautiful is sung by the budding hero, which is pretty attractive. If you are a keen follower of R.P.'s style, you would have noticed that in every album, he ensures that there are a couple of slow songs, and another couple of folk-type tunes, apart from those regular beats that attract the youth. In Holi, the major attractions are Ounani (by R.P.), Aadapillalu (sung by Kavitha Krishnamurthy and K.K.) and Chamak chama (by Suneetha Rao). Okay album.

Dil Vil Pyar Vyar... Sa re ga ma... Rs. 55
THIS FILM is in the news along with another film, Jhankar Beats, on account of similar storylines. Both are drawing from the musical legacy of R.D. Burman.
The flap of Dil Vil Pyar Vyar makes it clear that the music is based on Pancham Da's. Here it is recreated, not remixed by Bablu Chakravarti.
Some of the well-known numbers of Pancham Da are brought to the listeners. The selection is quite arbitrary - O haseena zulfonwali, yeh jo mohabbat hai, yaadon ki baraat, mere saamne wali khidki mein, raat kali ek khwab, tere bina zindagi se are some of the songs chosen. Although the music is quite similar somehow the magic of Pancham Da is missing. Moreover, the singers cannot recreate the charisma of Kishore Kumar or Lata Mangeshkar. This is not to belittle the efforts of Abhijeet, Hariharan, Kumar Sanu, Shaan, Babul Supriyo, Kavita. K. Subramaniam, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, and Sunidhi Chouhan. They have rendered their best but one invariably wants to listen to the original melodies sung by the original singers. Listen to this album if you want to hear the recreated versions of songs.

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron... Bryan Adams... Universal Music... Rs. 125
BRYAN ADAMS in his brooding voice has contributed to many a movie success - the popular one being Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Now, for Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron, he renders equally exciting songs to Hans Zimmer's music.
The tape starts of with one of the best numbers of the album, Here I am - this is me. There's no where else on earth I'd rather be... It has the right blend of sweet lyrics, husky voice, tilting music.
The rest of the numbers speak of the wild and the sensuous nature of the basic instinct in us, which reflects through a rare sincerity in Adams vocals. Worthy pick next time you visit the music store.
