Chords & Notes

Dil Hai Tumhaara — Nadeem-Shravan (Tips, Rs. 40.50)

IT IS another effort from Nadeem-Shravan, and like their previous ventures, their music plays a prime role in the film with many songs. This album, with nine songs, is no different.

The first two songs, "Mohabbat dil ka sakoon" and "Dil laga liya" are racy. "O sahiba" is slightly melancholic. "Chayya Hai jo dil" (sung well by Kavita K. Subramaniam and Shaan) is a rather melodious number with quite a bit of piano.

Side 2 begins with the title track sung by Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan is passable. "Chahe zubaan" sounds a bit like a Mohammed Rafi number, more so since Sonu Nigam tries to sing like Rafi.

Khilona Jaan Kar — Altaf Raja (Venus, Rs. 38)

WHETHER ONE accepts it or not, it is a fact that Altaf Raja has a huge fan following. Even with shayari in between his renditions of ghazals or film songs may irritate some listeners a bit, others seem to enjoy it.

For those belonging to the second category, the album comes as an appropriate gift. As the title suggests, Khilona Jaan Kar features old Hindi film songs such as "Khilona jaan kar tum to mera dil", "Yeh duniya yeh mehfil", "Chal akela", "Rang aur noor ki baarat", "Ajeeb daastan hai yeh", "Mohabbat ki jhooti kahani pe roye", "Yeh zindagi usi ki hai" and "Jo humne daastan apni sunayi".

Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra... Swar Shikhar... Virgin... Rs. 75

THE TAJ heritage series of recordings of live concerts provides an opportunity to listen to maestros.

Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra performed live in Mumbai and this was recorded by Virgin Records. The brothers delineate raga Chayanat with a vilambit khayal in roopak taal ("Mor bole kunjan kunjan"), tapp-khayal in addha ("Nazar nahin aanda") and a drut khayal in teentaal ("Bhari gagari mori"). Their singing is excellent. The Swar Shikhar albums are for connoisseurs.
