Food for devotion... and the devout

Forget wheat, think Kuttu Roti. Forget garlic, think potatoes. All this for a day more as Navratras draw to a close this Monday. Have a bite of the spiritual fare on offer at restaurants across Delhi... .

NAVRATRAS ARE celebrated not just by devout observing fasts in reverence to Goddess Durga but by restaurants also which are otherwise famous for churning out non-vegetarian food. Five-star hotels and restaurants synonymous with serving fast food have added new recipes to their menu cards, which will do vegetarians or seasonal vegetarians proud. As only specific kind of food is eaten during these fasts, NYC, the fun café at Radisson, features Navratra Thali. It is serving Kuttu Ki Puri, Shakarkandi ki Chaat, Sabudane Ki Kheer and Til Ke Ladoo. The dishes have been decorated in silver plates.

Even the Pakwan, the North West Frontier restaurant at Hotel Le Meridien - which is known for serving North West Frontier dishes, is serving a wide assortment of vegetarian delicacies put together by expert chefs. In keeping the sentiments of those who observe the spiritual sanctity of Navratras, all the dishes have been cooked without adding a tinge of onion and garlic. Imagine eating recipes in a five-star- restaurant without onion and garlic. Other dishes include Sweet Potato Chaat, Aloo Chaat, Aloo Dahiwara, Aloo Jeera, Sitaphal Tikki, Paneer Bhujia, Navrattan Korma, Palak Chaman, Bharwan Tamator, Kadi Pakori, Kuttu Roti, Kuttu Poori and Sabudana Kheer.

Even Ruby Tuesday, which specialises in serving authentic American food, wants its customers to continue pouring in even during Navratras. It, too, is serving dishes cooked without onion and garlic. For appetisers one can try Baked Potatoes, Mix Fruit Salad, Pommes Croquette, Potato Skins and Pommes Croquette and Potato Salad. Vegetable Platter, Vegetable Stir Fried, Margarita Pizza, Alfredo Pasta and Cottage Cheese Sizzler are being served by its chefs who have just finished Mexican food festival. All these dishes, priced below Rs. 250, form a part of the main course.

Soups like Potato Cheese Soup and Cream of Tomato are being served at Rs. 50. For those who have a sweet tooth there is Mix Fruit Sundae or Yoghurt with Pineapple. Both have been a little steeply priced at Rs. 110. To give incentive to its customers one free Coke is being given on order of every dish. They are also being asked to fill in a coupon, which can even win them an exciting trip for two nights and three days at Kasauli or exciting gifts from Coca-Cola.

So all those observing Navratras don't have to think twice before entering into an eating outlet.
