Modern jazz concert
CONTEMPORARY JAZZ Concert by Florian Roxx Sextett will be on at the Max Mueller Bhavan on October 16, 6.30 p.m.. This concert has been jointly organised by Bangalore School of Music and Max Mueller Bhavan.
The troupe of six performers is led by Florian Ross who studied piano and composition in Cologne, London, and New York, with John Taylor, Don Freidman, Bill Dobbins, Jaachim Ulrich, Ron Sadoff, and Jim McNeely.
His first album was released in 1998 on Naxos Jazz, Florian Ross Qunitet - Seasons and Places, followed by Suite for Soprano Sax and String Orchestra.
The more recent one is Florian Brass Project - Lilacs and Laughter, in the year 2000.
He has several international prizes to his credit, which include the first prize at the Thad Janes competition of the Danish Radio Big Band of 2000. Ross has written music for the Metropole Orchestra, the Vancouver-Jazz Orchestra, the BML Jazz Orchestra, Joe Lovano and the Irish Radio Symphony, and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
Along with Ross on piano are Paul Heller and Matthias Erlewein (tenor saxophone), Dietmar Fuhr (double bass), Matthias Bergmann (trumpet), and Jochen Ruckert (drums).
The troupe will also perform in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Dhaka, and Colombo.
