Drive to Disaster - Pollution on city roads

Cycling & walking

ALTHOUGH roads are places for the rich and the poor to meet as equals, we have allowed the automobiles and its proponents to take over our lives. Motor vehicles account for 60 per cent of the risk of cancer, and the non-malignant ailments from air toxins. Cycling, the age-old modest transport for short distances has simply been forgotten but exercise and slimming institutions are loud in recognising it as a boon for fitness-freaks. Walking, cycling and going by rail are habits that ought to be encouraged to reduce that much of pollution on roads.
