Cooking cake

Is a cake to be baked only in the oven? Can one bake it in idli moulds?

Parveen, Santosh Nagar

THE BASIC rule is to bake a cake and not steam it. Hence, one cannot use idli moulds and idli steamer to bake cakes. In steamer, water is used and for baking you need dry heat. Hence do not try to make cakes in idli moulds. Actually small ovens for domestic purpose are easily available and you can make good cakes at home. Well, that's the way I started learning making cakes with my sister when I was in school.
