Competitive fun

IT WAS one big joyride all the way, especially for the cheering squads who screamed their lungs out. Obviously, the rain that drenched the city couldn't dent the enthusiasm of the teenage crowd at Chaitanya2002, the youth fest held at Chinmaya Vidyalaya,Vaduthala, on Saturday, October 12. Held for the sixth time since its inception in 2002, this year, Chaitanya was inaugurated by Kamakshi Balakrishna, director of Chinmaya Vidyapeeth, who lighted the lamp. Cine star Dileep was the chief guest at the inaugural function whereas the concluding

function in the evening was attended by actor Kunchacko Boban.

Students from fourteen CBSE schools participated in the fest where Bhavans, Girinagar, which bagged 85 points out of 120, lifted the Chaitanya Trophy. Choice, Tripunithura, was second with 60 points and Bhavans, Eroor, came third with 42 points. Naivedya Parackal of Choice was selected as Miss Chaitanya while Nikhil Nicholas of FACT, Udyogmandal school, got the title of Mr Chaitanya, by winning Mind Blow, a kind of personality test.

The competitions held at Chaitanya 2002 were Dial M for Music, a sort of musical comedy show won by Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya, Bandwagon, a musical journey imitating popular yesteryear bands like Beatles and Boney M and Global Waltz, a dance programme incorporating the dancing styles from different parts of the world, both of which were won by Choice, Tripunithura.

`What's the good word', a literary competition and Mystique, the fashion show that showcased Indian fashion down the ages, were both won by Bhavans, Girinagar.

Though competitions with exotic names like Mystique and and Mind Blow sound a little mysterious, they were all competitions well designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to make use of their creative talents, enjoy the spirit of competition and also have a lot of fun. Now, pure fun was the cheering competition held at lunch hour. This was won by Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal.

While Global Waltz saw an infusion of Indian, Arabic and Oriental dances, Mystique, the fashion show had Indian fashion as defined by Hindi films, Keralite royal fashions, and even Keralite wedding styles. The schools which took part in Chaitanya 2002 included Bhavans, Girinagar, Bhavans, Elamakkara, Bhavans Eroor, Excelsior, Kottayam, Chinmaya, Kottayam, Choice Tripunithura, IGM, Elamakkara, SBOA,Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya, Bhavans Adarsha Vidyalaya,Vidyodaya, Delta Studies, Fort Kochi and FACT, Udyogmandal.
