DELHIITES' OWN CINEPLEX: Satyam Cineplex offers hassle-free viewing at affordable prices.
THIS PAST week we heard of 3-Cs, a 325-seater cinema plus food chain at Lajpat Nagar owned by Raj Chopra of Competent Groups of Companies to give the `class audience' an ambience of PVR, now it is Satyam's Cineplex with "no distinction of class or mass but the product" at Janak Place, Nehru Place and Patel Nagar with a seating capacity of 1232, 1250 and 1800 respectively, to be launched soon.
While Patel Nagar Satyam would see films and audience by this year-end, the other two would take a little longer.
Promising the class ambience and experience to one and all, it boasts of "international features for the first time in India" having stadium seating arrangement with raised steps and more limb space between the row ahead guarantying obstruction-less viewing. "In most cinema halls, when you view a film sitting behind a person taller than you, it's difficult viewing as you have to request the person to change his position or you do yours. To avoid such a problem, stadium seating arrangement has been done with an additional feature of `extra-wide high-back rocker' for head rest and widening up the chair to the back giving an arm chair experience because of `rock mechanism' installed in them, not yet found in the traditional seat arrangements in Delhi cinema halls," says Deven Chachra, Director, Satyam Cineplex.
For a real cinema experience, onscreen projection will have "xenon lamps" providing a crystal clear view and stability as well as `edge-to-edge screen' to give people an ambience of a home theatre and enhance the "big experience".
What is interesting about the cineplex is that it comes to the fore after an "extensive research" on the people's idea of a good screen by Satyam. "What they want is not a pigeon hole but a large screen that gives them a feeling of being in a different world altogether, hence the wall-to-wall screen with the first ever three-way digital sound," claims Chachra.
What's more, like in the US, there will be Concession Stands - an outlet selling fast food and soft drinks, standardised form of canteens in cinema halls in India. "We have imported the idea of Concession Stands from England's Martek - world's largest manufacturer of concession stands in terms of efficiency and visual appeal," he informs.
To a film lover, Satyam promises "no line on box office for it has the latest computer-operated ticketing options" on four counters. "Here only one man will be able to handle most people at a time."
What is the price for an average cinemagoer for such a `big experience'?
"Though yet not finalised, but is absolutely competitive keeping in mind the masses who define the success and failure of the film by and large," says Chachra assuring that the new cineplex will not be an `awe-inspiring' place but a spicy entertainment experience.
To begin with, there are some much talked about films up for release like "Austin Powers", "Guru", "Kaante" and latest James Bond flick, "Die Another Day". The character James Bond himself shows on December 20 at the Patel Nagar Satyam "depending upon the fixing of the launch date," cautions Chachra.
So, just wait for a "feel good factor" that the three Satyam Cineplex guarantees without making a hole in your pocket.
